A Bollywoodish First First Love

Manmohan Singh's 'Pehla Pehla Pyar' (a.k.a. First First Love) is pretty much the typical Bollywood fairy tale from the 90s. A naive and spoilt Princess Sapna (Tabu) runs away from her mansion, which is under the strict supervision of her stepmother and a greedy uncle (Amrish Puri). On the way, she meets a fat aspiring musician (Rishi Kapoor). After some supposed comedic banters they fall in love. Things take a turn once princess Sapna returns to her mansion. Stepmom and evil Uncle have a scheme. Cute Tabu definitely looks and acts the part but her costumes are quite funny. What's even (unintentionally) funnier than her absurd costumes is Rishi Kapoor's dance. His steps and lack of grace is one of the most amusing parts of 'Pehla Pehla Pyar'. Kader Khan provides some nice comic relief and the late Amrish Puri entertains again as a villain. The soundtrack is fairly good (for a 90s Bollywood soundtrack). The songs are upbeat and catchy even though the lyrics exaggerate. Anyway, 'Pehla Pehla Pyar' doesn't offer anything new but it is fun in a campy sort of way and Tabu looks adorable and hot.

Unsatisfying female revenge film

The carefree days of a happy lesbian Hong Kong couple are over when they are attacked by three drug dealers while enjoying a swim; the girls are raped and one of them is killed. Three years later, the surviving girl, now a boutique owner, accidentally runs across one of those men, and decides this is the perfect opportunity to take her revenge. "Lady Punisher" is a promising title, but the film doesn't really live up to it. There is too little of the title character in the first half, as the running time is taken up by (generic if decent) action scenes featuring the drug dealers and their deals gone wrong. When the Lady Punisher starts killing her targets, the film starts hitting the spot, having the heroine fight in her lingerie (she has a pretty great body), as well as involved in a dominant / submissive lesbian scene with her female neighbor who idolizes her, and who becomes her accomplice. But the ending is supremely unsatisfying (spoilers): the heroine's new girlfriend also gets killed by the main bad guy, but instead of him suffering a brutal demise at her hands, he only gets arrested by the police! My VHS tape box proudly proclaims that it contains the "full uncut version", but I highly doubt it - many scenes of sex and violence seem to be cut short. ** out of 4.

If a movie has a solid storyline,brilliant acting,superb music,beautiful screenplay it can be categorized as one of the best..& 'PAVITHRAM' certainly falls in that category.It is one of the movies that will always be remembered for its brilliance.Outstanding acting by Mohanlal(one of the finest actors in India) is the highlight of the movie.This film is set in a village in Kerala.The movie captures your heart with every scene being lit up with brilliant acting,music..The film has one of the most solid stories ever made in malayalam movie history.Supporting roles by nedumudi venu,Thilakan,Vinduja menon,KPAC lalitha,innocent,late narendra prasad etc is simply superb.Female lead,Shobhana is brilliant.Music is composed by Sharath which is outstanding..PAVITHRAM has a story that is realistic..

Overall this is a beautiful movie..Everybody who has a heart that cares will love this..One of the best movie I've seen till date..Mohanlal's performance will glue you towards this movie for sure...I rate it 10/10...

Wow!

For a long time my brothers and I have had a competition to see who can find the worst movie ever based on, terrible acting, bad casting, rubbish effects, awful musical direction and cheesy pointless dialogue.

The competition is over. I found, A robot called Goldigger. Or, as it's called on IMDb A robot in the family.

This film sucks so bad, we had to watch it in 10 minute installments over the course of a week, as any more may have caused damage to our senses, it amazes me that Joe Pantoliano is in this movie! He went on to be in the Matrix of course, and perhaps even better, John Ryhs-Davies is in it too! A far cry from being the mighty Dwarf Gimli I'm sure.

The basic premise for this film is that a Dad builds a robot to look after the children as he is so busy with work (I'm not even sure what it was he did) but under no circumstances would you wish a child to be any where near the highly annoying "Goldigger" as he is named. The voice of the robot made my skin crawl for weeks, very creepy indeed, especially as it wasn't meant to be!

Anyway, there is some plot to do with an evil antique dealer player by John Ryhs-Davies, but I wouldn't want to spoil too much!

I am not ripping on this movie, I suggest everyone sees it, you'll appreciate everything else you ever see afterwards.

Now on with my search to find an even worse movie!

Greatest Hindi Action Film

The movie Elaan is relatively unknown among audiences, but I found it to be one of the best action movies in Bollywood history due to its intensity. The performance and stunts of Akshay Kumar are truly remarkable as Elaan, Mohra, and many other hits became the base on which Akshay has built his successful career. Being one of his biggest fans, I would recommend this movie to any other Akki fan because the movie truly delivers. There is something magical about the whole film as all its components come together in a wonderful fashion to create a movie worth watching over and over again. Amrish Puri also is great in the movie as he performs at his peak. Elaan is one of the best movies in Bollywood ever made!
