An unusual and brilliant film
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** I was in New York, when I saw this film at a special screening given by the director in a bar on the Lower East Side. I couldn't believe the maturity and wit in this 'un' and yet 'very' American film. The story is about a working class girl and entitled boyfriend who take an apartment in a bad neighborhood to save money and discover that their neighbor is 'mad' bomber. The bomber is always talking absurdly about working for "The Man" and decribing how he is going to "retaliate" against those he thinks have done him wrong. Meanwhile, the girl has to support her 'rich' boyfriend who has rejected his father's money. When the boyfriend leaves the girl to return to the safety of his father's money, she asks the bomber to make her a bomb so she can get revenge on the boyfriend. When pushed, the Bomber's facade crumbles and he admits that he is a fraud - unable to make the bombs that he wants to send to the people hhe believes are responsible for his wife and child's death. The girl and the bomber sleep together, but later, the girl returns to the boyfriend. Rejected, the bomber decides to really build a bomb - but an A-bomb this time. What makes this film both poignant and beautiful is that no one gets what they want.
